McKee (I) & Maria (Marshall) McKee as well as other miscellaneous correspondence to and from their family members. The letters are organized chronologically by year and month. Letters in this collection contain information about 19th century life. This series of the collection spans the years of 1852-1883. The correspondences are mainly from Ohio and Kentucky, but also from Tennessee and Indiana as George H. McKee (I) was travelling with the Union Army as a soldier. Often the topics of discussion are the weather and the effects of the weather on farming, the American Civil War, daily life, and Maria's schooling. The correspondences also discuss the happenings and events going on in family members' lives including weddings, births, deaths, and more. Sub series II - box two contains the letters of George H. McKee (II), Agnes (McKee) Scott, and Jessie McKee. There are miscellaneous correspondences to and from other family members organized within this sub series as well. Correspondences in this collection are from Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Florida, Washington, Tennessee, Arkansas, and California. Much like the letters in sub series II, the content of these letters often refer to daily life. A common theme is that of the weather, particularly in relation to its effects on farming. Much of the content of these letters are the correspondents updating one another about the events happening in the respective correspondents lives. Letters often inquire about the health of those they are writing. The topic of illness is very common in sub series II. During this span of years the family saw a lot of expansion and movement. Jessie McKee, Lizzie McKee, and George H. McKee (II) all lived in multiple states and wrote home often. There are a number of letters from George (II) to Jessie and Agnes from Europe as well. They would write to those at home about their travels and experiences. Documents Series II contains five sub series of documents including military, legal, financial, and tax documents.
